The firm continues to grow, and we are currently searching for a Senior Transportation Engineer with Traffic Infrastructure Design experience in our Portland office. This is a senior leadership position that, together with senior management, is integrally responsible for the company’s future strategic growth and success.

  • Project management experience through the entire project lifecycle, including proposal preparation, project scoping, contracting, reviewing invoices, and managing client deliverables and expectations.

Senior Transportation Engineer – Design: Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership on the pursuit, planning, and development of transportation engineering assignments throughout Oregon and Washington.
  • Establish client relationships, and be involved with marketing, contracting, and executing business development plans as needed.
  • Coordinate design issues with clients and work with the project team to develop solutions to technical challenges.
  • Serve as a technical expert and task lead on large, complex projects.
  • Perform and oversee a wide range of transportation design tasks, including signing, striping, traffic signal, lighting/illumination, Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS), and temporary traffic control.

Technical Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation work with an emphasis on infrastructure projects.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the States of Oregon and Washington or be able to easily obtain registration in these states by comity.
  • Proficiency with traffic analysis and drafting software applications such as Synchro, SimTraffic, Vistro, VISSIM, AutoCAD, and Microstation.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with key reference documents such as NACTO manuals, MUTCD, ITE Trip Generation and Parking Generation manuals, AASHTO Green Book, etc.

About the Position:

Areas of focus: Design, Operations, Planning.

This position will work closely with senior team members on a variety of transportation engineering, planning, operations, and ITS projects. You will develop skills in transportation engineering and planning by gaining experience in:

  • Transportation operations and safety analyses
  • The design of traffic signals, roadway signing/striping, and ITS elements
  • Performing other quality, technical, and analytical tasks
  • Parking management, analysis, and planning work

Responsibilities include preparing thorough transportation studies, area conceptual planning, traffic management plans, design services for traffic signals, roundabouts, roadway/area lighting, signing, striping, temporary traffic control, traffic signal communications, pedestrian and bike facility planning and design, and intelligent transportation system (ITS) planning and design.


This is an in-office position to start, with the possibility for hybrid or remote work for the right candidate.


Bachelors of Science Degree in civil engineering or a related field in traffic engineering and transportation planning. EIT Certification desired.


Software and Traffic Analysis Tools: Synchro, VISSIM, Vistro, AutoCAD, AGI, Microsoft Office Suite

Bonus Skills:

GIS, graphic design and experience with InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Experience preparing Transportation Impact Analyses and familiarity with the land-use entitlement process in Oregon and Washington is a plus.
