Jessica Hijar inspected the new mid-block Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) on S Holcomb Blvd in Oregon City.
This pedestrian-activated device uses two high-intensity LED modules that flash in an alternating “wig-wag” and simultaneous flashing pattern when a user presses the ADA-compliant push button.
RRFBs are recognized safety enhancements at unsignalized crossings. They can boost driver yielding rates to as high as 98% and reduce pedestrian crashes by up to 47%. Jessica confirmed that all components meet MUTCD and FHWA Interim Approval 21 guidelines.
