Lancaster Mobley has been working on traffic signal improvements at the intersection of NW 25th Avenue and NW Vaughn Street, where an eight-story affordable housing development is planned for the southeast corner. Our team designed a major modification to the signal system, replacing the existing span wire and pole with a dual mast arm pole.
Because the intersection is surrounded by overhead utilities, the design process required careful coordination with PBOT and utility providers. The project also represents a unique example of public–private collaboration, with PBOT contributing a portion of the new traffic signal materials.
These upgrades will help accommodate the redevelopment led by Carbon Group and Guna Collaborative, which will bring 72 new affordable homes to Northwest Portland.
Projects like this highlight how transportation and housing work hand-in-hand to create more accessible, livable communities.
