San Diego Vision Zero Plan, San Diego, CA.
Traffic Engineer. Nick assisted with the identification of systemic, low-cost countermeasures and developing planning level cost estimates for the City of San Diego’s initial Systemic Safety Analysis Report Program (SSARP). The SSARP serves to formalize a process for performing multimodal collisions analyses as a means to identify roadway network safety issues and recommend systemwide countermeasures. The project involved conducting a detailed collision analysis coupled with roadway characteristic data collection at each collisions location. This information was used to populate a matrix that helps identify potential trends and environmental characteristics that may influence collisions. This analysis led to the formation of San Diego Vision Zero Plan, the guiding document for engineering, education, and enforcement countermeasures for a goal toward zero traffic fatalities on city streets.
San Marcos Speed Cushion Policy, San Marcos, CA.
Project Manager. Nick developed a Speed Cushion Policy for the City of San Marcos to provide a systematic and streamlined method to engage citizens for speed cushion installation within residential communities. Nationwide research was conducted to develop a policy based on best practices. The policy provides a clear path for citizens to initiate the installation of traffic calming speed cushions on residential streets, as a means to reduce speeds and increase public safety.
LADOT Safe Routes to School program, Los Angeles, CA.
GIS Analyst. Nick helped lead the development of walking and biking maps to help parents and school personnel identify barriers to school access. School-centric community maps were created for 50 high-need schools to assist the City of Los Angeles in cataloging and prioritizing needed improvements, as well as to help in the development of “Suggested Routes to School” handouts for students and parents.
City of Carlsbad Sustainable Mobility Plan, Carlsbad, CA.
GIS Analyst. This project is intended to identify active transportation implementation measures to help the City meet its Climate Action Plan transportation goal of a 10% reduction in vehicle miles travelled in ten years. The project includes an update of the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plans and the development of Safe Routes to School recommendations and citywide design guidelines. An evaluation of emerging mobility technologies was also conducted, including bikesharing, e-bikes, neighborhood electric vehicles, and regional mobility hubs at existing transit centers.
G Street Tuna Harbor Parking Study – San Diego, CA.
Traffic Engineer. Nick monitored the parking demand of the Tuna Harbor parking lot (93 total spaces) for a 16-month period. The parking demand study documented the hourly parking demand for each individual space within the study area, for 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the entire 16-month period. The parking demand was collected via six time lapse video cameras, placed strategically throughout the parking lot, which took a picture every 30 minutes. At the end of each month, Nick would swap out the memory cards in each camera and break down the data from the previous month and input it into a database. Through this effort, the property owner was able to determine the hourly, daily and seasonal parking demands for the unique uses within the site (commercial fishing), and develop a shared parking plan to more efficiently use the parking existing spaces.
